Key Points
• OSCAR® graphical user interface – The KVM switch uses intuitive OSCAR menus that
allow users to configure and manage the KVM switch, as well as select server modules.
•ACI port – The KVM switch has an Analog Console Interface (ACI) port that allows
connecting a server via CAT5 cabling to an external KVM device, such as the Dell 2161DS
Digital Console Switch or the Dell 180AS and 2160AS Analog Console Switches. The ACI
port helps reduce cost and complexity by eliminating the need for a Server Interface Pod
(SIP) and giving access to up to 10 servers using only 1 port on an external KVM switch.
•Tiering – The KVM switch can be tiered from an existing external Dell or Avocent Console
Switch. In this instance, the Server Modules are accessed through the OSCAR screens or
software of the external KVM switch from which PowerEdge 1855 is tiered.
•FLASH upgradeable – The KVM switch is FLASH upgradeable to help ensure that it is
always running the most current firmware version available.
•Security – OSCAR protects the system with a screen saver password. After a user-defined
time, the screen saver mode engages and access is prohibited until the appropriate password
is entered to reactivate the system.
